Kaare Wieneke, owner of Bethesda Boards on Woodmont Avenue, has been working to transform the indoor skate shop into ‘The Alley’ — a lively and welcoming music and art space — for more than 12 years, according to a GoFundMe launched to help make it happen at long last.

“The truth is we didn't anticipate the full length and expense of this transition,” writes Wieneke.

“Your support will help us complete architectural, electrical, and plumbing blueprints, build two new handicapped bathrooms and get our new venue approved and operating.”

$400 has been raised out of a hefty $35,000 goal. If successful, The Alley will function as a live music venue six nights per week.

“We are proud to have been a resource for Montgomery County families and skaters, and we are so grateful that you have asked how you might give back,” writes Wieneke. “The generosity and love you all have offered has been amazing! We appreciate you helping us to keep serving the community!”
